In France, following certain high-profile health scandals, the legislator undertook to curb the legal loopholes in this area by introducing transparency of the contractual and financial links between manufacturers marketing health products and health professionals/organizations. The French transparency system “Transparency of links of interest” was introduced by the Law on the sanitary safety of medicines of December 29, 2011, known as the “Bertrand Law” and then expanded by the Health Law of January 26, 2016.
Since then, health industries are required to publish twice a year on the public database “Transparence Santé” information on contracts concluded with health professionals, as well as the benefits received, as soon as these exceed the sum of 10 euros.
